LIBRARY UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

We’ve been working SUPER hard to get the library ready for this upcoming school year! I’ve had lots of help, mostly in the form of my wonderful husband who has moved whole bookshelves with super human strength, my incredibly creative mom and her inter-galactic bulletin board creating skills and my wonderful dad whose handyman powers allow him to mount shelving in a single bound with the strength of 10 men! Thanks so much to all of you for helping me get ready for the new school year, and keeping me on track with so many things to do in the Library! I, seriously, don’t think I could do it without you!

Learn interesting facts about animals around the world. The site includes animal videos such as a rare pygmy hippopotamus at an Australian zoo and a wildlife blog. Also Fun Stuff like mazes and coloring pages to print and use!

Kid’s Planet

A fun website that features information about all of the animals on our planet! Wild Games include Concentration, Be a Bug, and Who am I? where you have to guess each animal by it’s sound!

Reminding Us To Wash Hands!

With more flu viruses going around it’s more is mportant than ever for students to remember to wash their hands often, especially after using the bathroom, blowing their nose, coughing, and before eating! Here’s a fun video to remind students the BEST way to wash their hands & why they should remember to do so:

“Going Green”

I talked to the kids today about going green and they thought that it ment that they should wear green to school tomorrow. I then attempted to explain reusable grocery bags and energy efficent light bulbs! Here are a few MORE FUN ways for kids to help make the world a little greener from EarthDay.Net:

1) Replace light bulbs with long-lasting compact fluorescent bulbs…
2) …and turn off the lights when you leave a room!
3) Don’t charge your cellphone overnight.
4) Bring your own coffee mug to your favorite java joint.
5) Turn OFF your office computer at the end of the day and on the weekend.
6) Whenever possible, use washable microfiber cloths in place of paper towels.
7) Cancel the phone book delivery (use our online one here!)
Collect rainwater and use it for watering outdoor plants.
9) Turn off your dishwasher’s “dry” cycle
10) Sign up for online banking to eliminate paper statements.
11) Planting trees.
12) Creating a community garden.
13) Going for a hike in an endangered area.
14) Coordinating a household hazardous waste collection with your town.
15) Donating old cell phones to save African gorillas (eco-cell.org)
16) Cleaning up a nearby pond, river, stream, etc.
